Greetings Seattle My name is DJ Deprave- I am an Artist from Southern California ! I am making my way up there late October and I am looking to colobarate, network or possibley rock a show w/ Seattle ! (Obvisiously, I dont know anyone in the hiphop/music scene up there ! Admittedly, I may have overlooked The Winter’s End EP. It was very creative, a total departure from Sabzi’s normal synthy boom-bap. Not sure if it would’ve made my Top 10, but definitely deserves an Honorable Mention.

Dear Friends, EP just wasn’t long enough to qualify, I guess. Looking forward to Sol’s next full-length, though.

Grynch is an interesting artist. He’s so damn talented and such a likeable dude but, for me at least, there’s a missing dimension in his lyrics. What he’s rapping about just isn’t interesting enough. That joint he did with P Smoov (“You’re On”) was fire, though. Andrew Matson (Seattle Times) hit the nail on the head: Grynch’s “thing” seems to be his storytelling ability. More dope stories would add more dimension. I’m sure he’ll find his proper voice soon and then it’ll be on.

Yid Seck is one of my local favorites. He deserves more shine, in my opinion.

Also, another one of your favorites that has drifted back in the shadows has been Sol… surprised there wasn’t a mention. Grynch just got a ton of press and the fact he wasn’t ranked surprises alot of people considering Seck didn’t get the same attention. Keep on, keep on.

@pds: I did see that. J. Cunningham (Publicola and The Weekly) has a good take on the local hip-hop scene.

@Ace: Thanks, my dude! Helladope has got next in this town, but I don’t think they put out a singular defining body of work to qualify.

@boooooooo: Chemistry was good, but I just couldn’t see it being better than the thirteen albums I mentioned. I left a lot of good stuff out — Lights for the Dark Knights (by Kublakai) would be another. Where would you put Chemistry in the Top 10?
