A fresh dispatch from the underground. D-Money of Go Juice Radio interviews L.A.C.O.S.A. Music’s Mack E. Juice Radio hosts the weekly Fresh Coast Faceoff feature which pits two tracks by local MCs against each other, allowing listeners to vote on their favorite. (Sound familiar? It’s all love, though!)
From what I can tell, Juice Radio does great things for Seattle’s underground scene. It’s unfortunate, but hierarchies persist to exist in communities even as small as Seattle rap’s. Both D-Money and Mack E are representing the deeper unseen Town movement properly.
Get familiar with L.A.C.O.S.A. Music and their Cypher Monday series, here. And check out Mack E’s latest album offering, Excuse the Interruption, below.
Pok Pok just opened a Manhattan location in the Lower East Side, so that is where I’m going. Right. Now. But before I tighten the velcro on my ProWings, here’s Nacho Picasso’s latest, Lord of the Fly, with production cohorts Blue Sky Black Death. Peep that album cover. Looks like a regular Wednesday night for Nacho. Have a great weekend everyone!
Too many Seattle rapper cameos to name here. Every time you recognize one, take a shot. Apparently Thad set the scene for this clip in his mom’s crib (unless “the house of Thad’s mother,” as the press release indicates, is the hottest new club in South Seattle). I wonder if they got yelled at afterward for smoking in the living room.
TH’s Maven mixtape drops January 27.
New drop from Art Vandelay. These guys stole their moniker in alphabetic form alone. Their actual identity is all their own. Believe that.

Colored People’s Time Machine coming January 19. “Blossoms of Fire” was produced by BeanOne and directorial duties on the clip were handled by Barni Qaseem and Shadi Rahimi.
This brief 5-track self-titled EP from Spekulation is sneaky-good. The compositions are the mark of an MC and collaborator (Nate Omdal) not content on building simple boom-bap just for the sake of delivering bars, but an honest attempt at combining unexpected musical constituents.
The previously-released single, “Something is Happening Here,” successfully combines a Bob Dylan sample (“Ballad of a Thin Man”) with driving hip-hop rhythm, and “Inception” finds Spek rhyming like his life depends on it over a Celtic-inspired backing track. Get the EP for free below or throw some cash the artists’ way, too.
Goodness gracious this makes me happy.

The newest drop from Sol’s Yours Truly, set for release on January 20.
“2020” details the current state of a generation driven by ego, attention deficit, and self-consciousness, with a video presenting the journey from the creative process in the studio to the final product of a record being performed on stage.
As an aside, here’s some more interesting commentary on the state of today’s youth. Not to sound like an old codger, but my experience with the younger set has been consistent. Parents, take note.
I do believe there’s a great album lurking in Sportn’ Life’s hyperactive court jester Spac3man. Too bad it’s taking him so damn long to come with it. Maybe the forthcoming Beyond The Stars EP will deliver. Until then, here’s an enjoyable banger produced by JakeOne.
