Local boys Carl Roe and Produktive (collectively Roe and Pro … clever) recently dropped The Mini Tape, six new joints produced by a crew out of London called Dumb Beats. DJ No Mercy taunts you throughout. The Booth has your hook-up.

NEW MUSIC: Soviet Goonion – Avatar Darko

I love how Avatar Young Blaze (ahem, make that Avatar Darko) describes his particular brand of vodka as “emo grunge trap.” Yup, that about sums it up. Soviet Goonion is his latest and it dropped today via DatPiff.

NEW MUSIC: 5 Good Reasons – Sam Lachow & Raz Simone

Click album cover to download.

Here’s something worthwhile: Sam Lachow (NYC by way of SEA) and Raz (one of the Town’s finest new voices) collaborate for 5 Good Reasons, a pentagonal collection of wide-ranging party- and street-life numbers. Sam is a legitimate musical force to be reckoned with and Raz is worthy of all local hype bestowed thus far. Together they’ve crafted a remarkably thoughtful EP that I would count among the region’s best this year. Get it for free here.

UPDATE (1:15 pm PST, 9.24.12): The duo just dropped the latest video from the EP. “Coyotes” was directed by Sam Lachow, Raz and Avi Loud. Peep game below.

NEW MUSIC: “NASA” – Thaddeus David (prod. by DJ Semaj & 1stborn)

Thaddeus David says YOLO in the face of fear. “NASA,” while creative, just doesn’t have the same ring, though (try yelling it in the club this Saturday and see what happens). Watch for the rapper’s Trapital Trill, coming next month.

NEW MUSIC: “LazyEyes” – Brainstorm (prod. by Bleak)

Another outtake from Brainstorm’s The Celestine Prophecy 2 (due October 16).

Speaking of “lazy eyes” … I just returned to New York from a weeklong visit to the Pacific Northwest. Red eye flights, while often seeming like a good idea, are one of the worst types of travel you can subject yourself too. Drifting in and out of consciousness in an upright plane seat for five hours while Ira Glass mumble-cores his way through your iPod headphones is a surefire way to surreality. And the four hour “nap” you take once you get home is ambiguous enough to seem like a night’s “sleep,” enough anyway to ensure you won’t actually be sleeping later that night. In other news: what amazing fucking weather, eh, Seattle?

NEW MUSIC: “Ebber Tider (Sally Draper)” – Sabzi

Caught this little number over at Sabzi’s blog, Townfolk. Inspired by a choice instrumental in an episode of Mad Men (hence the “Sally Draper” in the title), Saba gives us something “crunchy” and “stumbly” (his words) for our brains to chew on.
