DOWNLOAD: “Time Flies” – Dyme Def (prod. BeanOne)

This one hits all the right sentimental notes for you eighties and nineties babies out there. BeanOne builds something like a chopped-up Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis track, circa 1989 — I do believe I hear a “Rhythm Nation” sample in there!

“Time Flies” is a moment of reflection for Dyme Def on how far they’ve come since “the Alpha” inception in ’06 (otherwise known as the Sportn’ Life demo disc). This is kick-back-with-your-feet-up-and-a-cold-brew-in-hand music. Indulge in what you got today because tomorrow ain’t never promised.

(And if you’ve missed any of the crew’s bi-weekly Pay Day drops, get all of those here.)

DOWNLOAD: “Monster” – Scribes f/JFK

Got-damn this track reminds me of a joint I heard years ago, but f-ck all if I can’t remember what it is. Something about the tone in that keyboard…Anyway, Scribes leaked this about a week ago. It’s the first track off his forthcoming LP, What Was Lost (dropping 2.4.11). Bean on the beat. JFK on the guest bars. Scribes sounds loose and ready to hang with the major SEA players, talkin’ about that age-old dilemma so many rappers (and any artists for that matter) face: “Wantin’ cheese/But I really want the songs that change/It’s the soul on the top of the game.”

DOWNLOAD: “Be Who You Are” (Dopkwe)

Game Soulo and BeanOne are Dopkwe. Download the under-appreciated, Heroe’s Theme Music for free, here. And the latest track, “Be Who You Are” below. Bean’s production rarely stumbles and it’s damn near impossible for G. Soulo to come off anything but positive. Both of these attributes are what keep this collaborative endeavor fresh.

What’s a “Dopkwe??”

I just got hip to this free demo download from Dopkwe (the beat/rhyme combo of producer BeanOne and emcee Game Soulo). BeanOne is on his grind, as usual, concocting those left coast underground-flavored beats. And G-Soulo’s high-pitched flow goes nicely over said tracks.

I know Seattle doesn’t have a particular “sound” yet, but I hope that if and when it gets one, Bean’s name is mentioned in the conversation. His resume (Framework, Dyme Def, Choklate) is built solid like Qwest Field.

(Speaking of Frame, Hello World is also available via free download here. I had to scour the entirety of Capitol Hill one sunny day in ’05 to find a used copy of the CD. Too little, too late interwebs!)
