Scenes of Seattle nightlife and vintage rap cassettes flood your mental in this new clip from the 96 crew. Raps by Alca, video directed by Zar and beat by the good doctor EarDr.Umz.
Seattle hip-hop chosen son Gabriel Teodros celebrated the release of his new full-length album, Evidence Of Things Not Seen, last night at the Columbia City Theater. The show also featured Draze, Xperience, DJ/producer EarDr.Umz, and one very special (and very famous) guest — hit the jump to find out who. Photographer Rafael Ochoa attended on behalf of 206UP.
Bonafide Seattle crate-digger EarDr.Umz and fellow beat cohort T-Bone Steak sampled, chopped and looped together this collection of head-nodding instrumentals and tagged it with the furtive title, Nick Johnson EP Vol. 1. It’s a passing homage to Captain Baltic (government name, you guessed it: Nick Johnson) who began his run as a resident jazz DJ in 1963 at KRAB, a listener-supported FM station with a politically subversive bent. This dusty sprinkling of classically-minded boom-bap rolls along in that spirit. Good stuff.
