Sometimes life feels like a perpetual summer for the boys of BFA. “Funk With Us” is a dose of that ethos, the first drop from the crew’s forthcoming Windows Down, due this — you guessed it — summer.
In advance of their Locals Only show coming up this Saturday night at Neumos, Brothers From Another (featuring Mario Sweet crooning and Nima Skeemz and Elan Wright on production) present a synth-heavy, bouncy pop ditty, “Love Yourself.” A musical pat on the back in preparation for summer.
You might remember Stoned Ape (fka HD Thuro) and his collaborative project The Stone Tape with producer Ill Pill. If not, refresh your memory with the rapper’s new electro-tinged single “Waves” produced by Nima Skeemz and from Stoned’s upcoming This Is Not For Your Entertainment which also features production work by Elan Wright and Ill Pill.
Sol and director Noah Porter released the video for “People,” one of two songs from the rapper’s mid-February double single release, “People/Pages.” This well-shot, dramatic clip finds Sol mired in an existential crisis of sorts, torn between a desire for solitude and human companionship.
Rapper Sol emerges today from a self-admitted creative drought with two new tracks produced by his squad Nima Skeemz and Elan Wright. On “People” and “Pages” Sol addresses the redemptive roles that his folks and his process contributed in pulling him out of his funk. The tracks are equal parts well-crafted hip-hop and heartfelt confessionals. It’s nice to hear from dude again.
PhilHarmonic was one part of the two-man local crew called Superfire who, back in early 2011, submitted the soulful joint “Searchin” to this blog’s TRACKMEET competition. The other half of that duo is a cat named Elan Wright who now makes moves with Sol’s production team The Zillas. These boys all growed up now and Phil has moved on to solo work. Drones is his latest project and it gets blessed by former partner Elan and the lyrical stylings of Rebel and Kung Foo Grip.
Sol let fly the second single from his upcoming don’t-call-it-a-comeback album, Eyes Open, set for release September 10 (click here or on the photo above to pre-order the EP on iTunes). “Tomorrow” features Shayhan and was produced by Zilla teammate Elan Wright. Sol spent a few minutes answering206UP’s THE SIX last week, click here to read the interview.
Sol revealed the first single from his upcoming Eyes Open EP (due September 10, 2013) yesterday. “Jump In” was produced by longtime collaborators the Zillas (Elan Wright and Nima Skeemz) and illustrates the close relationship Sol has with music. You could almost call it matrimonial.
Check out this easy groove from SuperFire (Elan Wright and Phil Harmonic) featuring Lizzie Huffman. Sunroof music.
