NEW MUSIC: ILLFIGHTYOU – ILLFIGHTYOU

IFY_BC

ILLFIGHTYOU is Tacoma’s EvergreenOne, and UglyFrank and Khris P of Sandlot. One part horrorcore, one part balls-trippin’ drug rap, and one part janky stand-up comedy. On their self-titled debut album (out today) the crew pulls out its impressively-girthed id and smacks you across the face with it. (I think that’s a compliment.)

DOWNLOAD: “Posse On Broadway (Remix)” – EvergreenOne, John Crown, Gazmo, & Fice

There is a street called “Broadway” in Tacoma. To my knowledge it’s not as major as the one running through Capitol Hill. EvergreenOne, John Crown, Gazmo, and Fice make it sound that way, however, on this remix to the legendary Seattle track of the same name.

(My favorite part is when John Crown brags about his Red Wings costing more than Jordans. #RealTacomaTalk.)

VIDEO: “Born in 86 (Preview)” – EvergreenOne

#253UP. EvergreenOne goes ahead and breaks you off with a little bit of that preview. My favorite thing about this Tac-town cat is his nostalgic sensibility. The last time heads saw EvergreenOne in HD, he was waxing poetic about “90’s Shit.”

Best line here: “Wear my daddy’s letterman/Hopin’ that he can hear me now.” It’s sentimental and real, which I’m a sucker for. Solo album from EvergreenOne coming soon.

DOWNLOAD: “Milk On Wax” (Todd Sykes & EvergreenOne)

Todd Sykes and EvergreenOne strike me as dudes who would be just as content freestyling over Pharcyde instrumentals in the back of a broken-down tour van, as they would rocking a stage in front of a couple hundred college kids in McMinnville, Oregon. Okay, maybe not just as content, but throw some quality greenery in the back of said van and it would be close.

Still, to discount the Tacoma emcees simply as two blunted-ass slacker kids with a knack for clever rhymer-y would be selling them short. Check out their refreshingly fresh LP, Milk On Wax, available for the price of nothing, here. The three-song sequence “City Hall,” “90’s Shit” and “For Real” had me nodding my head in unashamed approval in a car full of NYC subway commuters today. “2-5-3 does hip-hop too, ya know!” I wanted to exclaim.

And the video for “90’s Shit”:
