MC Dex Amora and the always reliable Goldenbeets on production with their first drop of the (still) new year. I listened to this track in my Honda, driving through my sunny new home of Los Angeles, and indeed I saw that it was good. See Dex and ‘Beets “Touchdown” tonight at Seattle’s Lo-Fi.
On the mic device Dex Amora is all fluid lyricism, coasting with uncommon ease from thought to thought; old (school) soul in a new body. “What Do Ai Say” was produced by Goldenbeets and features vocals by Scarlet Parke. It’s the first leak from Dex and Golden’s upcoming Ai Level EP.

Part lament, part performance piece, Raz Simone’s new video “All In My Mind” taps into the sexually and emotionally vacant sub-layers of the human psyche. Watch Raz ignore cops (and their mounts), curious passersby, even a bad woman in a flowing black dress, for the sake of connecting to the camera. Perhaps, in the midst of a month-and-a-half long stint as the most discussed rapper in the Town, that’s all he feels connected to at this moment. From his upcoming project Baby Jesus (due April 7).
Dex Amora — Minnesota transplant and Golden Era nostalgist — dropped his eight-piece EP, Aura, earlier this month. The promising rapper finds community with similarly-minded producers Goldenbeets and SoulChef. Vintage samples, turntablism and obscure science drops abound on this worthy effort.
Break, bars, sample: a simple recipe that always works. It helps that Araless is nice on the mic, treading a lane somewhere between Brother Ali and the SEA’s own RA Scion. Winner of a past edition of THE TRACKMEET, rapper Araless hit the 206UP inbox with his new track “Attention” (produced by Bellingham’s Goldenbeets). Boom bap with clear reference points for hip hop heads (check that Brother Ali flow in the second verse). I like this.
