New ish from Ish and his transcendent Shabazz Palaces project. Lese Majesty arrives July 19 via Sub Pop Records.
New sounds from Shabazz Palaces means a necessary re-ordering of your earhole understanding. “They Come In Gold” is the shimmering new sample from SP’s upcoming Lese Majesty (due stateside July 29), a “7 suite, 18 track sonic mythmap of new black wave and ghetto psychedelics”. Easy for you to say, press release. “They Come In Gold” can be both a question and a statement. Adjust your cognizance accordingly.

The dream is the nightmare is the beautiful revery. Chimurenga Renaissance drops knowledge on the B.A.D. (Black American Dream). Zimbabwean harmonies collide with Bomb Squad noize and Shabazz Palaces consciousness on “The B.A.D. Is So Good”. Chimurenga’s DNA is still being sequenced, but click here to find out what we’ve learned thus far.
Chimurenga Renaissance is Tendai Maraire’s “other” project. This is the one you already know him for. “It’s Time 4u2go” was filmed in the rapper/musician’s native Zimbabwe. Mother Earth politics and the bitter imperialist’s sword are on his mind. (H/T to PIMB.)
Alright, enough Yeezus. Now for some soul-cleansing: the striking, beautiful new video from Shabazz Palaces.
Chimurenga Renaissance is a side project of Tendai Maraire’s who you already know as one part of Shabazz Palaces. Do a little light internet digging to find the meaning of “chimurenga” and you’re on your way toward enlightenment. Listen to CR’s Pungwe mixtape (which actually dropped last fall) to take another step.
“A Toast to Frame and Ro” features Tendai’s SP partner, Palaceer Lazaro, and it might be the hardest, most beautifulest thing in Seattle rap this year.

Shabazz Palaces made their triumphant return to New York City this month, performing two bill’s worth of shows at SOB’s and Brooklyn Bowl. This is an interview and performance clip from the former venue, courtesy of the tastemaker you love to hate, Pitchfork.
Check out the latest video from area MC PROPS, “The Taste of Heaven.” The most creative, visually stunning music video from any SEA-based artist not named Shabazz Palaces. Give this a look, it’s worth the time, folks.
From the upcoming High As The Stars: The Planet of MARz mixtape, hosted by Vitamin D, coming early summer.

The title of THEESatisfaction’s debut album on Sub Pop Records (due March 27) is stylized to read: awE naturalE. Group members Cat and Stas have universal style in spades, though, so fanciful alphabetic manipulation is unnecessary whenever concerned with this duo.
The record in question is streaming in its entirety over at NPR Music and I suggest you click on over now. The LP is short enough to listen to during your lunch break, but its musical, lyrical and spiritual depths plumb more toward eternity. It’s as obsessively advanced and enlightened as Shabazz Palaces’ Black Up and, just like that triumph in artistic spirit, it was grown in your own backyard, Seattle. Take joy in this one.
This just dropped from the (internet) ether. SP raising the bar again.
