Ripynt is building an army, one drug-addled office worker drone at a time. No Liam Neeson father-having motherfuckers. From Rip’s A Beautiful Funeral. Directed by Jason Chen and produced by Carl Roe.

Your annoying friend who’s trying to become a rapper probably spent all weekend writing rhymes over this Jake One beat tape. Either that or he just got high and watched football while this played in the background.
Luck-One has dropped his longtime moniker in favor of his real name, Hanif. Take note. Also check out his entertaining new video for the track “Gentrify,” off the forthcoming Twelve Inch Vinyls EP.
This was shot on location in Astoria, Queens and Harlem, NYC. I know this because I have a co-producer credit on the video. And by “co-producer credit” I mean “sat on the ground holding Jason’s laptop and running the track back for Hanif to rap over.” In any case, the video was directed by my partner in 28Hundred productions, Jason Chen. If you missed it earlier this year, check out the interview we did with Hanif back in March.
MC Ricky Pharoe and MC/producer Phreewil put in proverbial work on their new Was And It Will Be. The two gentlemen of rap leisure hold grudges and dream big from the bottom over a pu pu platter of boom-bap beats — that sounds like a negative critique but I assure you it’s not. Guests Jewels Hunter and Tru ID are worthy invitees and the only two rappers other than the principles that don’t get shitted on. Tell a friend.
206UP and Jae Change have collaborated to form 28Hundred, a new media company dedicated to producing original video content and in-depth, personality-driven interviews with some of your favorite artists. Stay tuned here for the latest 28Hundred productions.
Gabriel Teodros’ music and family may take him to different cities across the globe, but he is without a doubt a Town rap fixture. 28Hundred caught up with GT in Bushwick, Brooklyn this past summer to chop it up about his music, his Ethiopian Heritage and the time 2Pac visited him in a dream. We’re also thrilled to have this video featured on the Monarch Review and Okay Africa — many thanks to the good folks at those outstanding websites!
Enigmatic hip-hop artist Tech N9ne brought his Band of Psychos Tour through Seattle’s Showbox SoDo last night, and photographer Rafael Ochoa was in attendance to document the madness. Hit the jump to peep game.
The artist formerly known as Caz Greez comes correct with a new album, Life Sucks, featuring the now-trademarked otherworldly rap steez of Underworld Dust Funk. Martis — as he’s now preferring to be called — enlists producers Khrist Koopa, Trowa Barton and Cooli Sledge to assist in the descent.
Chaz French
Happy Belated
Self-released (2014)
Score (Potholes In My Blog scale): 3 / 5
Chaz French is a blue-chip rap prospect from the Washington, D.C. area whose debut album, Happy Belated, has been making the requisite blog rounds for the last couple of weeks. And, while it’s mostly enjoyable hearing Chaz slam home vocal alley-oops over the production work of fellow upstarts — names like Kris Minor and Super Miles — Happy Belated ends up feeling more like 28 points scored on 10-for-thirty shooting, rather than an efficient use of the rapper’s obvious natural talent…
Gabriel Teodros (MC) and SoulChef (producer) connect time zones and worldly perspectives on their new collaboration, Evidence Of Things Not Seen. Gabe recorded his lyrics in Seattle, Toronto and Quebec; and SoulChef cooked the beats in Auckland, New Zealand. See it come together live on November 6 at Columbia City Theater where GT will mark the occasion by releasing a limited-edition lyric book along with the CD. Also watch for the 28Hundred interview with Gabe, dropping tomorrow (Wed., 10/29).
This is tight. Brothers From Another bring a dope concept to an effortlessly fresh video for their new track, “Running Home.” BFA play genial Love Scouts in what appears to be a beautiful aligning of souls between two nameless people. A little Wes Anderson, a little low-budget DIY charm — it’s the nimble BFA crew making it all look easy, as usual. Video directed by Jon Holman, track produced by Nima Skeemz.
