It pays to sort through the Spam folder. This nugget turned up today: a new track by The Good Sin (featuring Wolfy Bauer and produced by 10.4 Rog). “Celebrate” is the first drop in Sinseer’s #FallBackSeason campaign which promises a new single weekly and a new video monthly. That’s quite a commitment from the talented baritone, let’s see if he can keep it up.

Raz has a two new solo album EPs coming out soon called Solomon Samuel Simone and Cognitive Dissonance. “Cold” is the latest track and video from that record the former. Catch dude on tour with Sam Lachow now.

There are things going on in the Seattle underground that I miss, blogging as I do from an area code that doesn’t match the one in this website’s URL. As The Big Lebowski might say, “That’s a bummer, dude.” Much thanks to Ear Dr.Umz for hipping me to this compilation of instrumentals, culled from the Tuesday night Stop Biting sessions at Lo-Fi. Oh, so this dropped like five days ago and I just caught the damn thing over at Fresh Selects. The Giorgio Momurda colllaborative EP from last year (seems like ages ago already) was pretty much the greatest thing to come out of the East Side since Windows Vista. (Jokes.) Kung Foo Grip aren’t calling Growing Up In The Future their debut LP, but it’s the closest thing yet.
New drop from Tacoma’s Second Family (featuring AyeLogics). “The Life” is produced by Rawbeatzz who produces for a lot of rappers I don’t like and for a few that I do. Go Google and go here to get the track.
So much for starting the new year on a positive note. Avatar Darko and Nacho Picasso get predictably inappropriate on “RAH (Ratchet As Hell)”. What’s the over/under on how long we have to live with the term “ratchet”? You know what, don’t answer that.
Even with 365 days in the year, a whole grip of stuff from 2012 didn’t get previewed by the good staff (of one) here at 206UP. Dice’s Reflections in Broken Glass was one such oversight and it shall be rectified. Above is her new clip for “Flat Tire” (produced by Vitamin D). Reflections is on sale now at fine purveyors of that good indie shit.

Indianapolis native Props! is not a household name in the Seattle rap game. Yet. His new mixtape, High As The Stars: The Planet of Marz, seeks to change that. The well-executed, self-assured collection of tracks is a big step forward for the MC who has chosen to make Seattle — an unlikely but currently booming hotbed of hip-hop — his home base of musical operations.
HATS:TPOM features high-profile guest shots from Stalley and Wale, not to mention a vital Town co-sign from local legend Vitamin D who lends production on five tracks and guest bars on one. Props! himself proves to be a versatile MC with a well-spanned base of subject matter including standard boastful rap fare (“What Up”), the precariousness of liquor-induced feelings of grandeur (“Superstar”), and unpretentious love-talk (don’t miss the rapper’s visually striking music video for “The Taste of Heaven”).
In a time when everyone and their child’s tutor is trying to make a go of it in Seattle rap, there’s rarely a dubious moment when pressing play on something new that filters through the 206UP.COM inbox. Props!, however, finds that rare balance between sounding overtly contemporary and relevant, while staying rooted in strong MC fundamentals. High As The Stars makes for a promising look from a new man on the scene.

“Numb Again” is the first drop from 33 An’a Third, the upcoming Mello Music Group debut from Seattle producer Def Dee. 206UP.COM is really looking forward to this one ever since Def dropped Gravity (in conjunction with area MC La) and Cheap Heat (a beat tape that showed off his well-tuned ear for boom bap in the grand tradition of Premier and Dilla).
