This current generation of underground Los Angeles rappers makes me very happy, even if some of them were not to be. Blu’s “My Sunshine” is a thick and weighty track made light and buoyant by the MC’s breezy flow and Nia Andrews’ in-the-wind hook.

VIDEO: “Otherside (Remix)” – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Fences)
Not much to say about this. It’s really beautiful. Everything works. Macklemore is making the best music videos in Town these days. Here’s more proof in case you missed it.
VIDEO: “Stop & Go” – Lace Cadence
I actually enjoyed this. Mostly because of Jon Jon’s too-cool-for-school camera work, not Lace Cadence’s mediocre sing-rapping.
VIDEO: “The Birds (Part 1)” – The Weeknd
How long until Victoria’s Secret uses a Weeknd song in one of its commercials. That’s really going to suck. Until then, let’s enjoy the dirty glamor.
VIDEO: “AllStar” – King Pulse (feat. Qswyft, DTK, One Kahleo, L. Hammond, Leon Swanks, & C Logic)
Fresh posse cut from King Pulse and a bunch of rappers I’ve never heard of. Matter of fact, I have no idea who King Pulse is either, but his Facebook says he’s a Detroit native who now grinds in Seattle. In any case, I enjoyed this. Shout-out to Detooz Films for more moves made, as well.
VIDEOS: “Therapy/Wylout” & “Rap Rap Video” – Th3rdz
Visuals for “Therapy” above. Track previously available at this location.
A burst of fast rap from one third of…well, you know who it is.
This That & Th3rd coming soon(ish).
VIDEO: “Car Chase” – Metal Chocolates
Chuckie M. was right, this is much more entertaining than Janye’s new video. As a kid I used to get chocolate coins in my stocking every Christmas from “Santa.” Now I’m writing about ’em as a grown-ass man on my dumb little rap blog. #FullCircle.
VIDEO: “Like A Movie (Steezattle)” – Steezie Nasa (feat. D. Carter)
Here’s guessing the Mariners brass wouldn’t be super happy about Steezie’s guerrilla video tactics in the 300 level. Kids will be kids, though. By the way, hella youngsters rockin’ the Air Max Griffey 95’s out in NY. Last time I was home I spent nearly an hour digging through my dad’s garage looking for my pair of originals and couldn’t find ’em. Damn you, Spring cleaning.
(P.S. Love the Sabzi cameo thrown in for good measure.)
VIDEO: “Sweaters” – Nacho Picasso (prod. by Blue Sky Black Death)
Nacho Picasso might be Seattle rap’s Next Big Thing. And that definitely wouldn’t be all bad. This video was spotted over at SSG Music (#ConflictOfInterestAlert). All the insight needed (along with an exclusive leak) on Nacho is in SSG’s authoritative preamble to the MC’s next movement, For The Glory, featuring production work by electro savants Blue Sky Black Death. “Sweaters” sounds like trap music recorded underwater in slow motion, and it’s all about tattoos. Not that my opinion counts for anything, but Seattle needs hip-hop like this to pull itself out of a self-induced backpacker funk (and this is coming from someone who counts that style of rap as his preferred sh-t). Voices like Nacho’s are criminally under-represented in this Town. Time to stop the marginalizing.
