Tacoma’s John Crown is one of the best rappers from the South Sound, an MC with equal parts swagger and substance. The First Ride is the latest new music from him in a minute. It dropped earlier this month and 206UP is just now catching wind. You should too.
Ryan Hills directed this clip for singer/songwriter Jasper T’s “Broken Singer’s Blues 2.0”, a successful rap-folk pairing with collaborators MC John Crown and producer Trox. Jasper is donating a free guitar lesson to Boys and Girls Clubs in the Puget Sound area for every 500 views the video receives, so click and do something good at the same time!

Blog favorite Fleeta Partee is preparing a remix album follow-up to last year’s Lifemuzik. It is aptly titled Lifemuzik Duex. Big talent can be found on the first release, “This Is Hip Hop”, in the form of Jarrard Anthony, Yirim Seck, John Crown, and Jake One.

Jasper T. is a singer/songwriter and instrumentalist working on his first album, The Sweet Dark Pt. 1. “Julie” is an acoustic track from that collection featuring one of this blog’s favorite MCs from the 253, John Crown. Word is the two will be working on a collaborative project as well. It’s definitely something different than what we’re used to hearing from JC, but I think it’s pretty fresh.

DJ Phinisey is a name you might not be familiar with but should be. The man has done board work for a number of local artists (Tacoma compatriot, Rockwell Powers, being one of the most formidable) and he’s been known to croon a few bars when the beat calls for it, as well. Phinisey is his first solo release and features a healthy guest list of 206/253 talent: Grynch, RA Scion, Luck-One, John Crown, and Dice among them. Stream it and download for free below.
