VIDEO: “Gentrify” – Hanif (dir. by Jason Chen)

Luck-One has dropped his longtime moniker in favor of his real name, Hanif. Take note. Also check out his entertaining new video for the track “Gentrify,” off the forthcoming Twelve Inch Vinyls EP.

This was shot on location in Astoria, Queens and Harlem, NYC. I know this because I have a co-producer credit on the video. And by “co-producer credit” I mean “sat on the ground holding Jason’s laptop and running the track back for Hanif to rap over.” In any case, the video was directed by my partner in 28Hundred productions, Jason Chen. If you missed it earlier this year, check out the interview we did with Hanif back in March.

NEW MUSIC: “Mold You” – Luck-One (feat. The Good Sin & Dizz)

Mold You - Luck One Sinseer Dizz

This breezy, battle-of-the-sexes summer anthem was the first entry of Luck-One’s #WeeklyWonders series — a new track by the MC posts every Thursday on 2Dopeboyz. It cruises along on the strength of Tmak’s R&B-tinged beat, with Dizz on the hook and the Six’s most recent NYC relocatee Sinseer on the guest bars. Stream “Mold You” below and, in case you missed it, check for 206UP’s exclusive interview with Luck below that.

NEW MUSIC: Phinisey – DJ Phinisey

Click album cover to download.

DJ Phinisey is a name you might not be familiar with but should be. The man has done board work for a number of local artists (Tacoma compatriot, Rockwell Powers, being one of the most formidable) and he’s been known to croon a few bars when the beat calls for it, as well. Phinisey is his first solo release and features a healthy guest list of 206/253 talent: Grynch, RA Scion, Luck-One, John Crown, and Dice among them. Stream it and download for free below.

VIDEO: “Memories” – J. Bre (feat. Luck-One & Grynch)

John Harry Baluran of Detooz Films directs his best video yet for the homies J. Bre, Luck-One and Grynch. “Memories” takes a simple concept (T.R.O.Y.) and draws out a wealth of emotions with poignant images related to hip-hop, social issues and pop culture. One of the best Town videos of the year.

DOWNLOAD: The Revelation EP – J. Bre

Click album cover to D/L.

The Revelation EP is J. Bre’s follow-up to 2010’s Street Signs. J’s straight-forward no-nonsense approach to rhyming was the best part of Signs, but also the MC’s greatest handicap when it came to finding relevance inside a genre populated by novelty lyricists and throwaway punchline flows. On Revelation the rapper finds comfortable middle ground, diversifying his cadence but not losing the authentic steez that separates him from the fakes. Notable guest appearances here include Carl Roe, Grynch, Luck-One, and Justis. Available for the price of three clicks above and below.
