NEW MUSIC: Zenith – Grayskul

Grayskul - Zenith

There’s a full album review coming soon, written by yours truly, and hopefully to appear on some national music outlet foolish enough to give me space for a few hundred ill-conceived words. It will probably say something about how Grayskul makes better hip hop music than Macklemore and is an overall more accurate representation of the “Seattle rap ethos.” Or some similar malarkey.

Yeah, it’ll definitely have the word “malarkey.”

In the meantime, the fuck are you waiting for? Act like you’ve been here before and go get Zenith via Fake Four Inc. (Oh, and I meant it: Grayskul is better than Macklemore.)

NEW MUSIC: “Am I Crazy?” – The Physics (feat. Alisha Roney)

Am I Crazy - The Physics

A couple things:

First, The Physics have an official release date for their new album, Digital Wildlife, which Thig had previously relayed to me was set to be an amalgamation of hip hop, electro, and R&B. It generally sounds like we can expect that same vibe when the record drops this December 13th, but perhaps in more holistic terms: “Digital Wildlife is about the relationship between digital and analog,” goes the official artists’ statement. Can’t wait.

Secondly, “Am I Crazy?”, the new drop from DW, features singer Alisha Roney, a Seattle native turned Brooklyn resident and possessor of that rare vocal quality that can only be described as the perfect confluence of perfection and imperfection. At the risk of flirting with inappropriate hyperbole, I’ve heard critics describe Mary J. Blige as blessed with the same trait. So, you know, keep your eye on Alisha.

NEW MUSIC: Eyes Open – Sol

Sol - Eyes Open

The road back home for Sol ultimately led to the road back to music. Eyes Open is the culmination of a summer spent in the recording studio after returning from a trip literally around the world. “Eight songs written on four different continents,” declares the MC in the press release. Purchase the record here or stream it below. And click here to read 206UP’s interview with Sol from a few weeks ago.

NEW MUSIC: Left In The Deck – Brother Ali (prod. by Jake One)

H/T to Ego Trip for this one. Brother Ali hits us with a 10-track collection of outtakes, playable as a “cassette tape”, and produced entirely by Jake One. “The beats are grimy and I feel like this is some of the best rhyming I’ve ever captured on tape. I want to release this directly to you,” said the Rhymesayers MVP.

Happy weekend, family.

NEW MUSIC: None The Less – Thaddeus David

Thaddeus David - NoneTheLess

Thaddeus David has stayed crazy active in the lead-up to his latest album, None The Less. Check past mp3 and video drops here. The new 12-track LP features a gonzo-style cover (above) and is apparently heavily influenced by pizza (see the latest video, directed by Harry Clean of Detooz Films, below). Thaddeus describes NTL as an extension of Trapital Trill “with an elevated twist.”

(Also, who remembers the ubiquitous chain of cheap-o pizza joints in Bellingham called Pizza Time? It’s likely 70% of all dinners I consumed between September of 1995 and June of 2000 [aka my college undergrad years] were prepared by the good folks at “Pizza Slime,” as my college roommates and I lovingly bequeathed them. Here’s to mystery meat and “cheese” you can blow bubbles with.)
